How often do you volunteer at the Hospice?

We keep two days a week free to work at the Donna Louise. This is going out collecting full boxes from people's house, pubs, and shops. We also volunteer for anything else we can, when we are free.

Why did you start volunteering?

Ann started volunteering about 12 years ago. I saw an advert in the local paper asking for help at the restaurant in the local court. Applied for the job, and the cafe closed before I got the job, so I was asked if I would like to do the ironing, once a week. I did this happily and since the ironing has finished I have gone on to help with the fundraising and anything else I can help with.

My husband started About 11 years ago, working in the garden and checking all the electrical points in the hospice. The lady I was ironing with said she was leaving so Dave started doing that with me. He also helps with fundraising and also anything else we are asked to do.

What do you enjoy about working at the Donna Louise?

We enjoy coming to the hospice, to do the ironing, helping in fundraising. We also love going to collect boxes from people's houses, shops and pubs.(this has given Ann a lot more confidence, especially having to walk into a pub on her own). We both enjoy coming to the hospice, it is such a lovely happy place, and all the people who work there are very happy people, and always speak to us.

How old are you?

My husband is 76 and I am 74.

Do you volunteer alongside another job?

No we only volunteer for the hospice. We are both retired. We keep two days a week free to work at the hospice.

What activities to you support regularly at the hospice?
