A note from Director of Care, Dot Gillespie...
Well summer is flying by and we are very busy here at the Donna Louise preparing to welcome children and families back to the hospice.
For us, August is all about preparation! Staff training is underway to ensure that all the care team staff are fully trained in the use of PPE and all other COVID-related issues and that all their clinical skills and competencies are up to date.
We are also busy preparing the hospice for your return, cleaning, putting signs and information posters up etc.
From September, we will be providing day care at the hospice and support at home.
From the end of October, we will be offering very limited overnight respite care at the hospice.
The service we are able to provide is limited and allocation of care will be prioritised to those with the highest levels of assessed need. If your child and family’s circumstances have changed recently and your care coordinator is not aware, please call them to update them on such changes. We can only base our decisions on the information we have available to us. Crisis support and end of life care will remain our priority and be considered on an individual basis.
Like everywhere else, there will be changes in how we are able to provide care when we re-open, and your experience of the Donna Louise will be very different. Information regarding procedures when arriving at the hospice will be sent to you and discussed with you prior to your visit. We will only be allowing one parent or carer to accompany their child, no siblings and unfortunately, there will be no overnight family accommodation available unless there are exceptional circumstances.
If you have any questions relating to the above information please contact your care coordinator. Many staff are taking annual leave throughout August so please bear with us if you do not get a response in the usual time frame.
Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout these past few months. We are so pleased to be able to start offering some additional services from September and on behalf of all the team here at The Donna Louise we are all looking forward to seeing you again sometime soon.
Take care, stay safe.
