The Donna Louise is calling on the local community to don their running shoes on Sunday 17th May in support of local families for their annual 10k and 5k Family Fun Run at Trentham Gardens.
Zoë Gregory, Events Manager at The Donna Louise, said, “Our family fun run is a firm favourite in our event calendar, with almost 800 runners completing the course last year. If your new year’s resolution is to get more exercise, this is a great way to challenge yourself and with several months to go, there’s plenty of time to train and raise much needed sponsorship.”
“Every penny that our runners raise really will make the biggest difference, and is vital in helping ensure that The Donna Louise can be there for local families who rely on the hospice’s services.”
You don’t have to be a keen runner to take part; whether running or spectating, it’s a great morning out for the whole family. Fancy dress is also encouraged, with prizes given for the best costume, and participants are also welcome to bring along their dogs (on leads). The course is also wheelchair and pushchair friendly.
Zoë added, “What makes our annual 10k and Family Fun run really special is the fantastic atmosphere on the day, as people of all ages and abilities come together to raise money in support of the families who use the services of The Donna Louise.”
Following the same course as last year, runners will do one or two laps of the lake within Trentham Gardens, depending whether they sign up for the 5k or 10k distance. And if running 5k or 10k is a bit too far for your little ones, they can take part in our 1k Fun Run. No pre-registration is needed and entrants will receive a medal, we just ask for a £3 donation per entrant on the start line.
Spectators are also welcome to come along and cheer on their friends and family. The Donna Louise’s 10k race is recognised under the UK Athletics Certificate of Course Accuracy and all 10k runners will receive a chipped running number which will provide an official race time.
A free park and ride system will be operating from the bet365 stadium with buses to transport all participants and spectators to Trentham Gardens, courtesy of First Buses.
Registration is now open for both races. The 10k race is £16 per person and has an age limit of 16 years and over. The 5k race is open to any age and is £14 per adult, £8 per child or £39 for a family of two adults and two children. All entrants will receive a medal when they cross the finish line.
