The Donna Louise hospice for children and young people is looking for a whole host of volunteers to support its shops in Newcastle and Leek, the hospice in Trentham, and its work in the local community.
The charity is holding an open morning at the hospice on Grace Road, Trentham, on Saturday 22nd September, between 10am – 12 noon to explain more about the volunteering opportunities available.
Sabryna Porter, Volunteer Service Lead at The Donna Louise, said, “We’re looking for volunteers to help out in all areas of the hospice, including housekeeping, gardening and admin functions. Plus our brand new electrical and furniture store is about to open in Newcastle, so we’re also looking for volunteers to help out there and also in our Leek shop.
“Volunteering is a great opportunity to be part of a wonderful organisation, and to positively impact families’ lives. It’s also a great way to connect with the local community, especially if you’re new to the area, make new friends and develop new skills.”
During the open morning on 22nd September, visitors to the hospice will be able to learn more about the volunteering opportunities available, as well as meet some of The Donna Louise’s existing volunteers.
Volunteer Christine Underwood helps out at the hospice every Tuesday, she said, “I started volunteering 5 and a half years ago, after losing my mum. I felt I wanted to be a part of something, to give something back, but I wasn't sure what, then one day I saw an ad in our local paper about the Donna Louise needing volunteers so I came to the interviews and was smitten.
“I really enjoy being a part of the team and interacting with the children and their families. I love doing painting and crafts and anything creative with the kids, however I get to play football and other things too! It gives me a lot of satisfaction and I always go home feeling happy.”
Please note, you must be over 17 to volunteer in the hospice.
