They've done it!

Just before 6pm on Thursday 31st May, Team Tower to Tower finally reached London and the end of the epic challenge to raise money for the children and young adults at The Donna Louise.

The team crossed the finish line outside the Guoman Hotel in the shadow of the iconic Tower Bridge, London. After 4 days of travelling almost non-stop by bike, boat and on foot, there were cheers, tears and huge sense of pride as the team reached their final destination.

Rory Delap, former Stoke City favourite and current Derby County coach said, “It has been hell! It’s been the hardest thing that I have ever done – nothing else comes close. It has been an amazing group that have done this with me and raising money for such a good cause. There were shifts in the rowing where we were going through a thunder and lightning storm and you would miss the water because it wasn’t there. When it came back it would nearly send you crashing out of the boat. We were hallucinating by the end of it and seeing things in the water.”

Rory was hoping for a leisurely final leg which didn’t prove to be the case. He said: “I thought that the walk would be the easiest part – just a nice stroll through the countryside but it has been an absolute grind. The blisters have been incredible and people have been in real pain with them. It’s been non-stop but when you think about where it is all going it is worth it.”

Over the last four days the team have battled the weather, faced severe fatigue and sleep deprivation in an attempt to raise awareness of how hard it is to function physically, emotionally and psychologically on limited sleep.

They’ve dealt with sore bottoms, sea sickness, aching feet and lots of blisters but they’ve pulled together as a team and kept each other going.

Gareth Higgins, MD of KMF Group, said “It has been non-stop – going from the bike ride and straight into the boat with no rest, and then walking to London. I didn’t under estimate the walk but that has been the hardest part, dealing with the fatigue. Getting to the finish line and seeing some of The Donna Louise families just reminds you of why you have done it and why it is worth it.”

It’s been an epic journey that our heroes have tackled in awesome style, their skill, endurance and stamina for this challenge, one of the toughest to date has meant that they’ve smashed their original target of £100k to raise £205,000 so far!
