This Sunday, The Donna Louise’s 10k and 5k races will take place at Trentham Gardens to raise money for hundreds of children and young adults who rely on the charity.
For the first time The Donna Louise will be operating a free park and ride facility, with parking at the bet365 stadium, to ease congestion around Trentham Gardens.
Thanks to First Buses, all runners and spectators will park at the bet365 stadium where wristbands will be issued to enable access to Trentham Gardens. The first buses will leave the stadium at 7.30am and will continue to transfer runners and spectators at regular intervals throughout the morning.
First Buses have been supporting The Donna Louise for several years. Manager Daniel Flanagan explained why the organisation was keen to support the charity,
“We began to support The Donna Louise following the sudden and unexpected passing of the young son of one of our drivers, Rob. His son, Oscar, was cared for by The Donna Louise after his death and his parents are continuing to receive support from the charity.
“In terms of the Park and Ride, we provided the facility free last year for the second time for the Emergency Services Day event and it was very well received. It was four buses driven by drivers on a purely volunteer basis without pay.
“This year we were keen to assist again for the 10k, especially when we discovered that it was essential for the event to go ahead that parking had to be completely offsite from Trentham Gardens. In order to move people quickly this year, we’ll be using ten buses on the Sunday in question. This will provide a five minute frequency between Bet 365 Stadium and Trentham prior to the start and after the end of the race.”
Once the race has finished, First Buses will return everyone to the bet365 stadium, with buses leaving Trentham Gardens every few minutes until 2.30pm.
Zoë Gregory, Events Manager at The Donna Louise, said, “We are so grateful to First Buses for their generous support. They’re providing the park and ride service completely free of charge. Without their help, our family fun run would not be able to take place this year, so on behalf of all the children, young adults and families who will benefit from the money raised by the event, I’d like to say a huge thank you.”
Online registration for the run has now closed, but you can still register over the phone up until 5pm on Friday 18th May by calling 01782 654444.
