The Dove Service

The Dove Service offers counselling and support to those struggling with the impact of bereavement, significant loss, or life changing/limiting illness. They provide services supporting children and young people, adults, learning disability and those supporting people with learning disabilities and also carers. They also offer clinical excellence in counselling and support for bereavement and loss achieving BACP Accreditation and ISO 9001 quality standards for counselling services.

A Child of Mine

A Child of Mine is there to help and support anyone affected by the death of a child, in as many ways as possible. They support parents, siblings and all family members who have been through a bereavement of a child.

Child Bereavement UK (CBUK)

Child Bereavement UK supports families and educates professionals when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying, or when a child is facing bereavement. Their vision is for all families to have the support they need to rebuild their lives.

The charity has experience in delivering the following direct services at a growing number of locations across the country:

  • Individual, couple and family support sessions
  • Parents' support groups for baby and child death and support through a subsequent pregnancy
  • Children and Young People's groups (CHYPS) for children to attend with adult carers
  • A Young People's Advisory Group (YPAG) for bereaved young people up to age 25 They also offer consultancy and bespoke solutions for organisations looking to address specific local needs.

The Bereavement Midwife Service at University Hospital North Midlands (Previously: UHNS)

University Hospital’s bereavement staff are here to help you during this difficult time. They will advise you on the practical steps you need to take following a death and offer help on coping with grief. Staff will also signpost you to various organisations that can help you sort out both practical and emotional issues.

Leaflets and booklets such as 'Helping you to cope with bereavement' which includes 'Registering a death at the Hospital' are also available from the hospital.

Advice can be given on the following:

  • How to obtain a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death
  • How to Register a death and obtain a Death Certificate
  • What to do if a post mortem is necessary
  • Visiting the Chapel of Rest
  • How to organize the funeral
  • Advice in relation to Funeral Payment from the Social Fund
  • Provide booklet from the Department of Works and Pensions
  • The procedure for disposal of foetal tissues, body parts and organs
  • Who to inform following a death
  • Signposting to Counselling and emotional support services

Specialist organisations providing accessible holidays and support

A national charity that provides information on accessible holiday venues and places in the UK and abroad for disabled people, their careers and family.

Revitalise - revitalise.org.uk

A national charity that specialises in short breaks throughout the year for adults and children (aged six and older) with physical disabilities, dementia or sight impairment, and their carers. The charity has holiday centres around the UK, and also offers holidays in Spain and Germany.

All Revitalise centres are registered as personal care centres and most are also registered as nursing care centres. However, the charity does not have the resources to provide holidays for people who are bed-dependent, or who have uncontrolled epilepsy, learning difficulties, or mental health problems.
